We left Piancaldoli and followed the main route back through Firenzuola, Monghidoro, Loriano, and eventually Bologna. It was much easier for us than the men of the Fifth Army in 1944. They spent the winter of 1944/45 in these mountains before finally reaching Bologna in April 1945.
